Refresh your nursing skills without entering the wrong program.
The RN Refresher Course is for licensed registered nurses who are returning after time away, preparing for bedside re-entry, or looking to rebuild clinical confidence. It is different from a Florida Board mandated RN remedial course.
This RN Refresher Course is voluntary and does not replace a Florida Board of Nursing mandated remedial course. If you failed the NCLEX RN three times, received a Board remediation letter, or need approved remediation, visit Nuvelle’s FBON-approved RN Remediation Course page.
Choose the right nursing pathway.

Five paths into the voluntary track.
If any one of these describes your situation, the voluntary RN refresher is built for you. You must be a U.S.-licensed Registered Nurse to enroll.
Licensed RNs returning to practice
Whether you have stepped away from nursing for a few months or several years, the course provides a structured pathway to rebuild confidence, update skills, and transition smoothly back into clinical environments.
RNs with an inactive or lapsed U.S. license
Nurses whose licenses have gone inactive or who are in the process of reactivation and need refreshed skills can use this course to prepare for re-entry.
If your Florida license has been lapsed 5+ years, the FBON-approved remediation track is required instead.RNs seeking clinical confidence before bedside practice
Some RNs simply want supervised practice to feel confident and safe before accepting a new clinical assignment. The skills lab and simulation hours give you that runway in a no-risk environment.
RNs updating skills before applying for new roles
If you are preparing for a hospital, clinic, or home health position and want to sharpen competency before re-entering the workforce, the program offers hands-on practice using modern procedures and current standards.
RNs completing an employer-recommended refresher
Some employers request or encourage a skills update before a new role begins. The program satisfies that need with structured instruction, documented hours, and a Nuvelle completion certificate for HR records.
Start the voluntary RN refresher application and Nuvelle will help confirm whether this pathway is the right fit.
AI clinical simulation that responds to you.
ALEX recreates real clinical scenarios and adapts to every intervention, so students build judgment, confidence, and bedside decision-making before entering a live clinical environment.
Clinical scenario preview
Show how ALEX presents a patient situation and asks learners to think through the safest next step.
Student decision-making
Highlight how learner choices affect the scenario, vital signs, feedback, and clinical outcome.
Instructor feedback loop
Use simulation results to guide remediation, coaching, and skills review.
Confidence before clinicals
Show how repeated practice helps students build calm, safe, and confident bedside judgment.
The procedures that decay first.
The 100 hours are weighted toward what nurses actually lose between assignments: the manual skills, the muscle memory, and the order of operations. These are practiced in person under RN supervision.
IV insertion and line management
Peripheral and central line care. Patency checks, dressing changes, and flush technique.
Wound care and sterile technique
Dressing changes, surgical site care, sterile field setup, and infection control protocols.
Foley catheter insertion
Sterile insertion, securement, and removal. CAUTI prevention standards.
Medication administration
Five rights, high alert medication protocols, IV push technique, and pump programming.
Patient assessment
Head to toe assessment, focused assessment, and documentation standards.
Transfer, mobility and safety
Safe patient handling, gait belt use, transfer board practice, and fall risk protocols.
Vital signs and monitoring
Manual and automated vitals, telemetry basics, and recognizing deterioration.
SBAR and handoff
Structured communication, handoff reports, and escalation protocols.

The voluntary refresher is 100 hours over 8 weeks and is taken by choice . no Board letter required. The mandated RN remediation course is 176 hours (80 theory + 96 clinical) and is required by the Florida Board of Nursing for nurses who failed the NCLEX three times, have a license lapsed 5+ years, or were directed by the Board. The voluntary course is for nurses returning to practice; the mandated course clears a regulatory requirement. -

-
An RN license is considered lapsed if it has not been renewed by the biennial renewal deadline set by the Florida Board of Nursing. If a license has been inactive or expired for five years or more, the Board requires completion of an approved RN remediation program; not the voluntary refresher before reinstatement. Shorter lapses may be eligible for the voluntary refresher track. A free consult is the fastest way to confirm which fits your situation.
-
Not by itself. The voluntary refresher is a clinical skills update — it does not satisfy the Florida Board of Nursing requirement for license reinstatement after a 5+ year lapse. If your license has been inactive for five years or more, you need the FBON-approved 176-hour remediation course instead. A nurse educator can confirm your situation on a free consult.
Get the skills sharp. Get the confidence back.
A free 20-minute consult with a Nuvelle nurse educator. We will look at your situation — license status, time away, what you want to do next — and confirm whether the voluntary refresher is the right track for you.
