RN Refresher Course
Struggling to regain your nursing license or pass the NCLEX? Nuvelle's Florida Board of Nursing approved RN Remediation Program offers the flexible learning and expert guidance you need to succeed.
👩⚕️ What Is an RN Refresher Course in Florida?
An RN Refresher Course is a structured program approved by the Florida Board of Nursing (BON) for registered nurses who:
Have an inactive or lapsed license.
Have not practiced nursing for several years and need to update skills.
Are required by the BON to complete a refresher before returning to active practice.
👉 Unlike remediation, which is required after failing the NCLEX three times, an RN refresher is for licensed nurses seeking license reactivation or renewal.
📋 Florida BON Requirements for RN Refresher Courses
Florida requires refresher programs to include both theory and clinical practice:
Didactic Hours: Core nursing subjects like Med-Surg, Pharmacology, Mental Health, Patient Safety.
Clinical Hours: Supervised hands-on training in a healthcare setting.

Theory or Didactic Course: (80 hours)
This is the acquisition and review of nursing knowledge which consists of concepts in medica-surgical; geriatric; psychiatric and mental health; maternity and newborn; and pediatric nursing.
Other related concepts relevant to nursing education and practice are integrated into each category of nursing. The course follows the Client Needs as used by the National Council of
State Board of Nursing (NCSBN) as the framework of this course. The student learning outcomes (SLO’s) will be assessed and evaluated through NCLEX style questions and the Next
Generation (NGN) exams. These are simulated NCLEX assessments that will enhance the learner’s knowledge and skills and gain the competence and confidence in responding to actual NCLEX exams and real- world clinical situations. Successful completion of practice NCLEX Exams assignments and Proctored Exams are requirements to complete the course.
An authorization letter is not required to begin the theory component of the remedial course.
Clinical Course & Training: (96 hours)
This is the application level in Bloom’s cognitive domains of learning. The course will require clinical training to the assigned facility and in clinical simulation. A complete clinical documentation is required prior to starting clinical training. An authorization from the Board of Nursing is required before the start of clinical course.
Clinical training may include but not limited to appropriate settings in acute care, long-term care, and community-based care.
When progressing to the clinical portion of the course, Nuvelle will request a Letter for Approval to begin the clinical portion of the remedial course. The request should include the following: (4)
Name of the remedial program provider
Type of course by profession type
Number of completed theoretical hours
Name and location of your clinical site (facility’s name)
Anticipated date of completion of the clinical component.
